Two of 235 outpatients with leg ulcers unresponsive to prolonged and vigorous conservative treatment were chosen to undergo lumbar sympathectomy as a last resort. In both cases healing was achieved within a relatively short time. There have been publications dealing with this alternate method of therapy for venostatic leg ulcers. It merits use in a small proportion of intractable ulcers not amenable to routine conservative treatment.
