Sensori-motor polyneuropathy due to metronidazole

Two patients developed polyneuropathy after the ingestion of 33-37 g and 16.8 g of metronidazole respectively. Marked weakness of limbs was a cardinal feature of the neuropathy. The occurrence of severe neurological deficits with a relatively small dose of the drug raises the possibility of an idiosyncrasy reaction underlying the neurotoxicity of metronidazole.
