A model of chronic cardiac insufficiency was studied in rabbits. The effect of chronic aortostenosis in the baroreflex regulation was determined. The narrowing (2.5 times) of the diameter of the ascending aorta led to the development of chronic cardiac insufficiency. Clinical indices of this insufficiency (ascites and increased heart, lung and liver weight) were clearly pronounced 6 wk following the stenosis. Regulatory disorders that were typical for chronic cardiac insufficiency were reliably reproduced. Decreased reflex bradycardia in hypertension was established. A decrease in the reactivity of the cardiovascular system was revealed when rabbits were given i.v. injections of nitroglycerin, phenylephrine and isoprenaline.
