Special system of electrocardiographic leads for the diagnosis of focal myocardial changes

An attempt was made to develop a system of ECG leads for diagnosis of focal changes in the myocardium, encompassing all sections of the left ventricle, with recording of the potential difference in the leads. The method was applied to myocardial infarction. Patients (203) were compared with 80 normal controls. In diagnosis of infarction of the left ventricular posterior wall, this special system of ECG leads has an advantage over the generally accepted method, since it makes it possible to use direct indices to reveal focal changes in the posterobasal sections 3.5x more often than with right chest leads using reciprocal indices. During infarction of the anteroseptal, diaphragmal and lateral regions of the left ventricle, the informativeness of the special and generally accepted systems of ECG leads are identical.
