The storage and inspection of marketable fish is discussed in connection with prevention of food poisoning, helminth diseases and poisoning by ingestion of poisonous fish and shellfish. Helminths of medical importance, occurring mainly in Asia and the Far East, include Angiostrongylus cantonensis, Gnat ho stoma spinigerum, Anisakis sp., Diphyllobothrium latum, Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini, Metagonimusyokogawai, Heterophyes heterophyes and Paragonimus westermani.
