Body temperature changes in dogs exposed to varying effective temperatures

Eight adult Beagles were each exposed to a series of 23 different effective temperatures between 21.1 and 34.7 degrees C for 2 h or until the rectal temperature (RT) had increased by 1.1 degrees C. At 32.6 degrees C and above RT increased by 1.1 degrees C in all dogs. At or below 31.4 degrees C the number of dogs with RT increased by 1.1 degrees C fell until at 28.4 degrees C or less no dog showed a 1.1 degrees C increase. There was no difference in the minimum effective temperature required to increase RT by 1.1 degrees C for males (29.6 +or- 1.0 degrees C) and females (30.8 +or- 0.4 degrees C).
