Ilex Chinese and Eucalyptus have been used for intestinal preparation for eleven years in Zhongshan Hospital, Shanghai First Medical College. In 205 cases operated there was primary wound healing with smooth postoperative convalescence in 195 cases (95.2%). Only ten cases of late bladder cancer had infection and disruption of the operative wound, and these were due to the malnourished state of the patients. Animal experiments have also demonstrated marked antibacterial effect of the two herbs.
