Between 1966 and June 1979, 739 patients were subjected to had angiographic studies. Out of these, 672 individuals were examined by bronchical arteriography. The catheterization of bronchial arteries failed in 77 patients (11.5%). Direct magnification of bronchial angiograms was used simultaneously in 207 cases. The pulmonary vascularization was visualized by angiography in 337 patients. Out of these nonselective angiography was used in 115 cases and selective angiography in 222 patients. In addition subselective angiography was carried out in 69 individuals and direct magnification simultaneously in 36 patients. In 211 patients pulmonary angiography was associated with right-sided heart catheterization. The superior vena cava was investigated in 94 and the azygos vein in 66 patients. The 2 latter studies were carried out predominantly in patients with bronchogenic carcinoma. The technique of angiographic methods and their complications were analyzed. Their indications and contraindications were discussed, with an assessment of normal and abnormal angiographic patterns. A classification of angiographic findings obtained by bronchial and intercostal arteriography was proposed and the significance of this classification in lung diseases was assessed.
