Phase II chemotherapy trials of 5-FU, cyclophosphamide, ifosfamide, and vincristine in carcinoma of the bilharzial bladder

Of 32 patients with carcinoma of the schistosomal bladder in Egypt treated with 5-FU, 2 achieved a partial response (tumour diameter reduced by 50%); 20 had improvement or stable disease for at least one year. Cyclophosphamide was given to 21 patients; 3 had partial response and one a complete response (disappearance of all clinical, roentgenographic and laboratory evidence of tumour); 12 showed improvement or disease stability during treatment. No response was seen in 16 patients given ifosfamide. Of 25 patients given vincristine, 2 had a complete response and 9 a partial response.
