Concurrent use of corticosteroids and antimicrobial drugs in the treatment of infectious diseases in small animals

It was concluded that the only indication for concurrent use of the two groups of drugs is when the nature of the infecting micro-organism is known, specific antimicrobial therapy is available, and when brief (up to a week) corticosteroid therapy will diminish or prevent the tissue injury associated with infection and inflammation. Indiscriminate use of corticosteroids in known or suspected infections is contra-indicated.
