To describe the improvement of complementary feeding during year 1992 to 2005. The datasets of 1992, 2000 and 2005 China Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (CFNSS) were used, the improvement of complementary feeding were presented in terms of timely introduction, and frequency of food items in complementary feeding, Logistic Regression Analysis on the relationship of child growth with complementary feeding pattern were conducted. The complementary feeding of Chinese children improved substantially during year 1992 to 2005. The appearance of animal food, vegetable/fruit and milk in complementary feeding was negatively correlated with the prevalence of stunting and underweight. OR of non-milk complementary food for stunting at age 9 - 24 month was 1.378, to underweight, the OR was 1.189. The results of multiple regression analysis proved the frequency of feeding vegetable/fruit, animal food and milk played essential role in child growth during 6 - 24 month of age. The improvement of complementary feeding contributed substantially to the improvement of child growth in past decade in China.
