Human peritoneal macrophages (M.vphi.) were given i.v. to normal rabbits and rabbits with Escherichia coli septicemia. No harmful effects were observed during a period of 3 mo. following macrophage transfusions and the septicemia was eradicated in 4 of 5 animals. Xenogeneic M.vphi. transfusion is feasible and can combat serious bacterial infections.
