Myocardial changes in short-term hyperthermia

Morphological, biochemical and functional changes in the cardiac muscle were studied in albino rats exposed to exogenous short-term hyperthermia. Rectal and skin temperatures, ECG and moisture loss were registered. Succinate dehydrogenase, phosphorylase, lactate dehydrogenase, .beta.-hydroxybutyrate and .alpha.-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase activities were determined. Short-term discontinuous hyperthermia carried out during 3 days resulted in substantial morphological, metabolic and electrophysiological changes in the myocardium of homoiothermal animals. These changes were reflected in the destruction of mitochondria, reduced redox and glycolysis intensification processes, as well as in fat infiltration of muscle fibers of the cardiac muscle and in the ECG indices of the disorders in cardiac rhythm and conductivity.
