A modified isotopic dilution method for measuring the serum vitamin B 12 level

A modified isotope dilution technique for assaying serum vitamin B-12 is described and is shown to give rapid reproducible and clinically useful results which are not affected by the presence of therapeutic drugs. The range obtained with 125 normal subjects and hospital control patients was 250 to 1200 pg per ml, with a mean of 547 pg per ml. Twenty-one patients with untreated pernicious anaemia gave results ranging from 42 to 246 pg per ml, with a mean of 113 pg per ml.
