A useful review is given of human trichinelliasis in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and other Latin American countries. The current situation regarding trichinelliasis in pigs and wild animals in Latin American and Caribbean countries is also reviewed. The disease is endemic and epizootic in Mexico, Argentina and Chile. A clear relationship exists between the levels of infection in pigs and the occurrence of human infection, and contaminated pork is the main source of human infection.
