The role of the dentist on interdisciplinary teams has expanded from therapeutics to comprehensive diagnosis, relying heavily on expertise in anatomy, pathology, and genetics. Along with this expansion has come a need for other health professionals to understand the diagnostic side of dentistry. Since alteration of tooth structure and eruption patterns are a significant component of many birth defects, it behooves those interested in such problems to become acquainted with the material in the remainder of this volume.
