Tubo-ovarian actinomycosis associated with the use of intrauterine contraceptive device

A case of right tubo-ovarian Actinomyces infection in a 37-yr-old woman is reported. For several years the patient had worn an IUD, the use of which had been complicated by recurrent signs of pelvic inflammatory disease. Treatment was unsuccessful until operation was performed, the ovary and the fallopian tube being removed.
