The prevalence of dermatophyte infections in hereditary palmo-plantar keratoderma

The prevalence of dermatophyte infections was approx. 40% among 60 patients with hereditary palmo-plantar keratoderma. Dermatophytes cultured included 10 isolates of Trichophyton rubrum, 9 of T. mentagrophytes or T. verrucosum and 7 of Epidermophyton floccosum. Correlation between direct microscopic examination and conventional culture methods was shown to be 88.5%.
