A captive Nymphicus hollandicus was killed after developing neurological symptoms. The brain was slightly swollen and there were microscopic lesions in the brain stem and cerebellum. Cross-sections of a nematode larva identified as Baylisascaris were observed away from the lesions. Together with another cockatiel and her chick which both died, the bird had been kept for less than a week in a cage that had housed 2 raccoons. The time from exposure to onset of clinical signs was 9 to 10 days.
