A preliminary report on the development of an arterial prosthesis

The results of the development of a woven arterial prosthesis are reported. The prosthesis is fabricated from polyester yarn of indigenous origin. The healing properties of the new graft was evaluated against an imported graft used as the control by implantation in the descending thoracic aorta of pigs and the prosthetic healing followed up to 3 mo. The final test grafts were comparable to the control in healing properties and tissue acceptance under the conditions of the experimental trial.
