A study of clay minerals of selected soils of morang jhapa and sunsari districts of nepal

Mineralogical composition of the clay fractions of the top soils from Morang, Jhapa and Sunsari [Nepal] was studied. The composition of the clay of these 3 districts are not much different. X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis of clays indicate the dominance of mica and kaolinite with fair amount of chlorite and small amount of vermiculite and gibbsite. Mica, weathering mica and kaolinite constitute the main bulk of clay fraction. The presence of montmorillonite is indicated in the clays of these soils.
