This paper traces the direct effects of a change in the procurement price of wheat in Pakistan on three different variables: (i) production of wheat in nine different agro-ecological zones; (ii) the wholesale price of wheat in the private market; and (iii) government procurement of wheat. Indirect effects of the first two variables on procurement are also measured. It is concluded that a real price increase of one rupee per 40 kg of wheat will raise procurement by about 90 000 t.
