Seven litters of piglets from 2 farms were followed through the suckling period. Rotavirus was found in all litters but one in periods ranging from 4 to 9 days. A blocking method of ELISA [enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay] for the detection of antibody against porcine rotavirus was correlated with titers obtained by a plaque reduction test. The antibody contents in milk samples from gilts and sows were followed together with the contents of rotavirus in the feces of the piglets during the lactation periods.
