This chapter follows the mother-infant dyad after birth in the early postpartum period. Hydration and nutrition in the neonate including signs of adequate milk intake, milk supply, delayed lactogenesis, and effect of pharmaceutical agents on milk supply are reviewed. Treatments for painful nipples including nipple creams and gels are described. Clinical care plan for sore nipples is outlined and possible risks of nipple creams and gels are presented. Some infant concerns such as pacifiers, stooling patterns, jaundice, breast refusal and latching problems, later breast refusal, crying and colic are discussed. Breastfeeding of multiple infants and during pregnancy is presented. In addition, this chapter discusses postpartum engorgement and milk stasis, breast massage, clothing during breastfeeding, and partial breastfeeding. Important concepts discussed in this chapter are summarized and addresses of helpful resources on the internet are included.
