Health education in occupational settings: history has a message

An historical perspective of the advances in health education is provided. More than 30 years ago business undertook to provide some health promotion, but most efforts ceased because community agencies were not prepard to meet the need. In 1965 a health education study concluded that effective worksite programs must be interpersonal and interactive rather than impersonal and information disseminating. Current programs are being developed by medical and personnel departments, human resources, recreation, and marketing departments. But management must remain committed to the concept of health education if programs must be integrated into existing company programs where results can be evauated. (kbc)
