Emergency Contraception (EC), finally included in the official Mexican Family Planning Guidelines, after a long debate, is a simple, safe and effective method deprived of contraindications for occasional use, and widely accepted among scientific community and users. The hot discussion generated, particularly on its mechanism of action, did however had a beneficial impact on method knowledge and use, especially among youth. We review here the existing information on the impact of this method inclusion in the contraceptive practices of adolescents and young population in Mexico.
