The prevalence rate of anxiety disorders seems to be at least 5 per cent in a given population. Unfortunately there are only a few epidemiological studies in this field. With the help of three examples, the author underlines their interest in assessing the frequency of anxiety states and finding risk factors of etiological and prognostic value.
