This study was conducted to investigate the incidence of human malaria in 37 localities of Zhob District, Balochistan, Pakistan. Malarial parasites were identified in the blood slides of patients with suspected malaria (n=7748) between July 2004 and June 2006. Of these suspected cases, 3240 (41.8%) were blood smear-positive for malarial parasites. Of the positive cases, 1681 (51.8%) were infected with Plasmodium vivax, and 1559 (48.1%) cases with P. falciparum.
