The present review summarizes the actual knowledge of infectious diarrhea in the pediatric age group. Main emphasis is placed on discussion of pathogenesis, etiology and therapy. Own data on etiology and clinical presentation of diarrhea in hospitalized children, so far not available from Switzerland, are presented and compared with results from other centres.
