Public health progress in Egypt during 1936 An editorial

This review of the annual report of the public health laboratories in Egypt reveals several interesting points. A strain of the Murine typhus virus was isolated from the brain of a wild rat (Rattus rattus) and has been passed 25 times through guinea-pigs. Among the strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae isolated it has been found that the 7 strains examined belong to one sero-logical group which has been found in only 8 out of 458 English strains and not at all in 274 strains gathered throughout the world. The value of the Forssman reaction in diagnosing infectious mononucleosis has been demonstrated. There are further detailed in the review the large number of public health projects of major rank which have been constructed.
