Vasectomy is a valuable contribution to the host of family planning methods. It should be considered an irreversible method, one for which any hope of refertilization is minimal. It is not advisable to refer to methods of reconstruction or cryoconservation of sperm since these methods are not always successful. Without intensive counseling with the couple and without sufficient time for the couple's decision, vasectomy can be very dangerous. Some specific examples are presented. (author's modified)
