The role of eosinophils in tropical disease

Research over the last decade has focused on a clearer understanding of the tissue reactions induced by pathogenic helminths and of the particular specializations and adaptations utilized by the eosinophil to ensure successful interaction of cell-derived cytotoxins with the target surface. This review summarizes some of the more important findings to have emerged from the experimental studies, and assesses the limited data pertaining to the relationship of eosinophils with tropical diseases of protozoal and bacterial origin.
