The role of phytoalexins in the resistance of plants to nematodes is discussed. Phytoalexins produced in infected plants include coumestrol, in Phaseolus lunatus (resistant) infected by Pratylenchus penetrans; glyceollin in soybean infected by Meloidogyne incognita and terpenoid aldehydes in cotton infected by M. incognita.
