Cancer of the transverse colon (personal experience)

A series of 17 cases of transverse colon cancer, among 143 patients with colorectal malignant tumors, who underwent surgical treatment between 1968 and 1978, is presented. Lack of symptoms and diagnostic difficulties of these cancers are stressed. Diagnosis is, in fact, often delayed and patients undergo surgical treatment during stage C or D (70% of the cases in this series). Operative approaches for these lesions are presented and the reasons for a poor prognosis when dealing with these neoplasms are considered.
