A luminescent gastroscope was designed for examining the gastric mucosa under luminescent light and in making diagnoses by measuring the luminescent intensity. Tetracydine was used as a luminophore, given to patients for 3 days in a daily dose of 1,000,000 U in combination with calcium gluconate in a daily dose of 1.5 g. The examination was performed in 36 h. A total of 271 patients with various stomach diseases were examined. The luminescent intensity depended on the morphological structure of the mucosa; in cases of gastric neoplasms the luminescence was 2-3 times more intense than in the control. In some patients only this method has made it possible to diagnose stomach cancer.
