Loss of erection, one of the long-term complications in injuries of the posterior urethra, was present in 16 of 26 patients (61.5%) with a history of this injury. The mechanism of loss of erection is unknown. Preserved ejaculation and orgasm in 9 patients supports the theory that the vasculogenic mechanism of erective impotence may play a role in the development of impotence in patients with injuries of the posterior urethra.
