Echocardiography in Aspergillus endocarditis

A case is reported in a 11-yr-old girl in whom the 2-dimensional echocardiogram first established the presence of a mycotic aneurysm and associated intracardiac and intra-aortic vegetations, following heart surgery. A. fumigatus was cultured from thrombi removed from both femoral arteries during cannulation. Despite replacement of the aortic valve with a prosthesis and amphotericin B therapy, the patient died.
