Blood serotonin in untreated petit-mal epileptics and influence of efficient treatment with either ethosuximide or valproate

Total blood serotonin (S) was determined in true petit mal epileptics, untreated and then efficiently treated with ethosuximide or valproate, and in healthy controls. In the untreated petit mal epileptics, the mean value of S did not significantly differ from controls. It was significantly higher (P L 0.01) in patients treated by ethosuximide and slightly lower in those treated by valproate, as compared to healthy controls. S may be differently influenced by different anti-petit mal drugs.
