Hemolytic-uremic syndrome associated with mitomycin therapy

Two patients who developed the hemolytic-uremic syndrome after mitomycin therapy are reported. Pathologic examination showed renal changes consistent with hemolytic-uremic syndrome and nuclear changes in kidney secondary to chemotherapy. The evidence for mitomycin nephrotoxicity is discussed. The 2 patients reported may represent a variation of drug toxicity different from previously reported minor creatinine increases associated with mitomycin administration.
