Four types of apparatus are available for the equipment of work places in stomatological radiodiagnosis: stomatological X-ray apparatus for diagnosis, technical parameters: 50-60 kV, and 5-10 mA (Minident 55), stomatological X-ray apparatus for diagnosis, technical parameters: 60-90 kV, and 10-20 mA (Stomax 100), panoramic X-ray diagnosis equipment working on the layer principle (Cranex DC) and 6-pulse radiodiagnosis equipment with horizontal table and tomography attachment. In East Germany, 1 dental film/yr was taken per patient (average). The radiation exposure (skin surface dose, 12 mGy; and gonadal dose, 0.001 mGy) did not constitute a genetic or somatic risk. Due to their small proportion in the total number of radiographs, extra-oral and panoramic X-ray examinations were of minor importance in the radiation exposure to the population.
