A patient with hemifacial microsomia, lateral facial cleft and microtia is described who has partial monosomy for the short arm of chromosome 5 (cri du chat syndrome). The facial anomalies in this child appear to be more severe manifestations of the dysharmonic facial growth often seen in cri du chat syndrome. It is important to recognize cases of facio-auriculo-vertebral malformation spectrum that have a chromosomal cause because of the difference in prognosis and genetic counseling.
