A German woman who had holidayed in The Gambia developed temporary swellings in different parts of her body. The indirect haemagglutination test using Dirofilaria immitis antigen gave a titre of 1:40. Two days after treatment with diethylcarbamazine a worm appeared beneath the abdominal skin. After removal it was identified as a Dirofilaria (Nochtiella) sp.
