A graph was constructed to show curves of legal and illegal interruptions of pregnancy (IPs) and natality in the years 1958-1969 in Czechoslovakia. In the years 1962-1964, the curve of legal IP declined quite a bit, while natality increased substantially and illegal IP increased slightly during the same period. This is explained by the fact that in 1962-1964 the IP committee (a committee which decides whether a woman will be granted permission for an IP) became much more strict before granting permission, partly because it was alarmed by the rapidly increasing number of IPs and partly because it wanted the number of births to rise. Social reasons for IP are still in the majority related to health reasons, which are fluctuating at around 20%. The percentage of complications is decreasing constantly, possibly due to the fact that doctors' methods for IP are constantly being improved.
