Four affected German Shorthaired Pointer pups from a litter of 9 pups were examined by radiography and post mortem. In a pedigree study, the ratio of affected:unaffected pups attaining an age at which clinical signs occurred was 10:29; this approximated the expected ratio (7:29) of a simple autosomal recessive disorder. General physical examination of dams and sires of affected dogs revealed no phenotype characteristic of the carrier state of this disorder.
