Family planning training in medical schools

In order to gather information of the extent and quality of family planning training in medical schools throughout Europe and the Near East, the IPPF Central Medical Committee circulated questionnaires to the deans of all medical schools in that area. Only 45% of the schools responded, and the responses were not representative of the whole region since, while most of the schools in same countries did respond, only a very small percentage of schools in other countries did. Anatomy and physiology of reproduction were included in the curricula of 93% of the schools; public health and population studies were taught by 66% of the schools; 54% of the respondents included in their curricula the motivational and socioeconomic aspects of family planning; contraceptive techniques were taught in 87% of the schools. Similar studies are being carried out in other regions of the IPPF.
