Sex differences in adults' spatial and verbal serial learning tasks

Two groups of medical students all right-handers and not differing in age or educational level were examined. The 1st group (240 subjects: 120 males and 120 females) carried out a spatial span test and a spatial serial learning task, using Corsi's block-tapping test. The 2nd group (200 subjects: 100 males and 100 females) completed a verbal span test and a verbal serial learning task. On the spatial span test and the spatial learning task males performed betters while females had significantly better scores than males on the verbal serial learning task. No sex difference was found on the verbal span test.
