Ankylosing spondyloarthritis and psoriasis

Patients (200) with psoriatic arthropathy were examined. Of these, 74% had spinal pains. The lumbosacral part was most frequently involved. Psoriatic ankylosing spondylitis was diagnosed in 108 patients. Sacroileitis was recognized in 83 patients. Of these, 31 had unilateral sarcoileitis, and 25 ankylosis of the sacroiliac articulations. Syndesmophytes were recorded in 32 subjects, of them in 8 without concomitant sacroileitis. The disease ran its course with insignificant disorders of spinal function and was asymptomatic in some of the cases. The common and specific features of psoriatic ankylosing spondylitis and Bechterew's disease were delimitated.
