Albuterol is used for treatment of reversible obstructive lung disease. Albuterol was compared to isoetharine [both drugs are B2-agonists] which is commonly used for prompt relief of bronchospasm. The drugs were compared for immediate response to determine which drug would be more beneficial. Twelve previously diagnosed asthmatic patients were included in the double-blind crossover study comparing 2 medications for responses over 1 h. There was apparently no clinical advantage of albuterol when compared to isoetharine in acute situations requiring immediate bronchodilatation.
