Seven patients with pharyngoesophageal dysfunction, associated with cervical dysphagia and recurrent episodes of aspiration pneumonia, were treated surgically with cricopharyngeal myotomy. Excellent clinical results were achieved in 6 cases. The radiographic evaluation of pharyngoesophageal dysfunction is discussed. The pathogenesis and pathophysiology of this condition are reviewed, as well as the surgical management.
