Hydatid disease in some areas of southern Ethiopia

A retrospective study of patients operated on at 3 hospitals in southern Ethiopia in 1973 to 1981, 1978 to 1980 and 1980 to 1981 revealed 35, 5 and 2 cases of hydatid disease respectively. Most of the patients came from the lower Omo river basin or from the Boran people of the extreme south. About twice as many females as males were affected. The liver was the site of infection in 33 cases.
